Our approach to journaling
A little space for their big inner world.
A child’s thoughts don’t always arrive in neat sentences. There can be questions, mixed feelings, unfinished ideas, and things they’re still figuring out.
At Big Brave Life, we see journaling as an invitation to explore—not an assignment to get right. Our purpose is to make room for a child’s voice, without asking them to sound like anyone else.
Their voice belongs here
There isn’t one right answer to how a child feels or what matters to them. We believe their own perspective deserves room on the page.
A moment together
Our vision of journaling leaves room for an adult to listen, share, and be curious—not only check whether a page is finished.
No performance required
We’re interested in expression, not impressive answers. A question, a small observation, or an unfinished thought can all have a place.
Questions, answered
Experience behind the pages.
From a team with years of experience in children’s publishing. Big Brave Life brings that background to a new collection centered on feelings, confidence, and family connection.
Which ages is it for?
There are two journals: Kids, for ages 7-10, and Teens, for ages 11-14. Each is its own book, written for its age group.
Which edition should I choose?
Choose by your child’s age. If you have a child in each age group, the bundle includes both journals.
What’s the difference between the two journals?
The Kids journal has short, friendly prompts, eight sections, drawing pages, and optional “together” pages. The Teens journal speaks to them directly, with six chapters, more choices, a note on privacy, and a chapter on friendships and asking for help. [DA CONFERMARE: struttura e titoli]
Can my child use it on their own?
Yes. Each page has one clear thing to do. In the Kids journal, you can read the instructions aloud for a child who wants help with reading. Teens use their journal on their own. [DA CONFERMARE: livello di lettura]
How much writing is there?
A little at a time. Some pages ask for a word or a sentence; many others ask your child to draw, pick, or circle. In the Kids journal, each section has a way to answer without writing, and short answers are welcome everywhere. [DA CONFERMARE: contenuto finale]
What does the grown-up do?
As much or as little as your child wants. In the Kids journal, you can read aloud, answer the “together” pages, and look at drawings with curiosity rather than to check them. In the Teens journal, you stay in the background and get a short note of your own. [DA CONFERMARE: contenuto finale]
More questions (11)
Is the Teens journal private?
Yes, it’s theirs. The first page says so, and the note for you says the same: your teen decides what to share, and when. [DA CONFERMARE: contenuto finale]
Do we need to use it every day?
No. There are no printed dates, so no page is ever “late.” Use it once a week, on a quiet afternoon, or whenever your child feels like it.
What are the physical details?
It’s a printed paperback, 8.5 × 11 in (US Letter size), with no printed dates. The page count, the paper, and whether the inside is in color or black and white will be listed here once they’re final. [DA CONFERMARE: pagine, carta e colore dell’interno]
How does shipping work?
The journal is printed and shipped to you. Shipping costs, delivery times, and the countries we ship to will be listed here before the journal is available to order. [DA CONFERMARE: condizioni di spedizione]
What if I need to return it?
The return conditions for the printed journal will be listed here before it’s available to order. [DA CONFERMARE: condizioni di reso]
When can I order?
Printing and shipping are being set up, so the journal isn’t available to order yet. [DA CONFERMARE: data di disponibilità]
Is this a substitute for a professional?
No. It’s a guided journal for families, not a substitute for professional advice. If you have concerns about your child, please talk with a qualified professional.
Do you collect any information about my child?
No. It’s a printed book: what your child writes or draws stays on the page.
What language is the journal in?
American English.
Is Big Brave Life a new brand?
Yes. The brand is new; our team’s children’s publishing experience isn’t. Before Big Brave Life, we published children’s books and journals on Amazon.
Can I see inside before choosing?
Use the previews on this page to take a closer look at the material before deciding whether it’s right for your family. [DA CONFERMARE: pubblicare solo con anteprime reali]
Reader experiences with this journal
She asked to do another page before bed, which never happens with a book.
My nine-year-old writes in it during our bedtime wind-down while I read next to him. The pages are different enough that he doesn't know what's coming, which keeps him curious. Some nights he draws instead of writing and the page still works. I sit with him and we talk about whatever he put down, or we don't, and that's fine too.
I've bought my daughter a few blank notebooks over the years and they all ended up in a drawer after two pages. This one has lasted longer, and I think it's because she isn't facing an empty sheet. Each page gives her a starting point, and she can take it wherever she wants. She's seven and reads well enough to manage most of it on her own, though she still likes me to read the prompt out loud, so we do that part together at the kitchen table after school. Sometimes she answers in one word. Sometimes she fills the whole page and the margins. Nobody is marking it, and she's worked that out, which I think is the reason she keeps opening it. The paper is thick enough that her markers don't bleed through to the other side, which matters more than you'd think with a kid who only wants to use markers. I like that there are no dates printed in it. We missed most of a month when we were traveling and there was nothing to feel behind about when we picked it up again. My only note is that I'd read a page or two ahead the first week so I knew what she was being asked. After that I stopped bothering.
Good mix of writing and drawing, and the instructions on each page are short enough for my son to read himself. I would have liked more of the open drawing pages, since those are the ones he goes back to first and there aren't many. He'll happily write too, but the blank-space pages are where he spends the most time. Nice object to have on the shelf.
